New year and new bands, I can barely contain myself. I can already feel that there will be some exciting stuff come out of 2020 and I for one am looking forward to it.
The first New (ish) band I checked out for the new year is a 4 piece rock/metal band out of Montana by the name of Uncommon Evolution. They formed back in 2013 and have had a 5 track EP and now hitting us with a 5 track album called Algid.
Firstly let me just say I enjoyed their intros on this album, they were all different and grasping. And that’s a positive.
Secondly the first 2 tracks were great “Close to Toast” smashed it with a haunting tone and soul rattling goodness. The vocal was harsh and deep. Solid solid track and sound, it got me excited and I thought we were on a winner for the whole album if this is how it was going to kick off. Second track “Ice Sphere” was as solid as I expect that ice ball would be. Plenty of power maybe even slightly too much power and not enough Furness. And that ladies and gentlemen was the beginning of the end.
The last 3 tracks “harder than hickery”, “Hansomly Stoned”, and “Lung Smudger” failed to give anymore enjoyment.
They have the workings that could get them places but I don’t think they have quite found their place yet and that’s ok..
I don’t think it will be the last we will hear of Uncommon Evolution, but they need more I think..
4/10
