Who are Dregg?

Released on April 26th, Hyperbole is the energetic new single from Melbourne hardcore band, Dregg.  Noise Pollution’s own Greg Noble recently had the chance to ask some questions of the band, and as you can see from the answers, they certainly don’t take themselves too seriously, and clearly prefer to let the music do the talking…

Tell us about the back story of Dregg?

Chris and Jordan moved down from the Gold Coast as well as the original bass player and decided to start a band together.  The band has evolved now to what it is.

What does the band name mean?

The band name means, the end of your beer, the last drag of your dart, the last scrapings of your mix.

What or who are your inspirations?

Foreigner, earth wind fire, Toto, Savage Garden, electric six. That’s it, nothing else.

What processes do you follow to create music?

We write a riff and it eventually turns into a song.

Tell us about your new single, Hyperbole.

HYPERBOLE is about Chris fucking up the way hyperbole it is actually pronounced.

Is the track a stand alone, or is it the first single from an album or EP to follow?

Stand alone , you ain’t seen nothing yet.

Why do you think that your work reaches people so quickly?

Because it’s honest and we say things people don’t want to say.

How would you describe your vocal style?

More of an MC than a frontman.

What can you tell us about the concept and creation of the accompanying video for Hyperbole?

We like to leave these things open for interpretation.

How has the Dregg sound evolved over time?

We all come from different musical backgrounds, that’s why the music is so diverse.

If you could go back in time, what advice would you give your younger self?

Save more money.

What can punters expect from one of your gigs?

Something you have never seen before.

Do you have any shows, or a tour on the horizon, in support of Hyperbole?

What type of venue do you enjoy playing the most?

Intimate venues.

What has been your biggest challenge as a band?

Industry rule number 4080.

Tell us something about Dregg that we might not know.

We actually hate each other.

What’s next for you and the band?

If we told you it wouldn’t be dregg.

Any last words?

Have you seen Austin Powers?
