Have you listened to the epic new Avantasia album yet?  Moonglow has to be one of the most ambitious heavy metal projects of all time.

Thematically, the album is inspired by Tobias Sammet’s fascination with the moon, and the story he has concocted follows a nocturnal creature struggling to cope with the reality of boldness and beauty who ends up turning to the darkness of Moonglow to hide itself from the world.

Lyrically, Moonglow deals with themes such as adjustment, expectations, convictions and feeling out of place.  It is epic in every way possible.  Running at 1 hour and 11 minutes, the listener is left feeling like you’ve been taken on a journey.

Guest vocalists helping to bring this immense project to fruition are Ronnie Atkins of Pretty Maids, Jorn Lande of Jorn, Eric Martin of Mr Big, Geoff Tate formally of Queensryche, Michael Kiske of Helloween, Bob Catley of Magnum, Candice Night of Blackmores Night, Hansi Kursch of Blind Guardian and Mille Petrozza of Kreator.  Yes, take a moment to let that list sink in…

Moonglow is a 10/10 album and simply has to be heard to be believed.  It’s an experience in and of itself, but the real experience will be in the live setting, and it’s coming to Australia in May, with a huge cast including some of the biggest names on the album, and full production for two very special shows presented by Overdrive Touring.
